Dean Hammer

Dean Hammer was raised in a Christian home.  His father served as Deacon in the church for 55 years.  He received Christ at age nine at Head of Richland Baptist Church in Rutledge, Tennessee.  This church was actually an offshoot of First Baptist, Morristown.  He was baptized at age 11 at Cherokee Lake during a revival preached by Royce Walton.
Dean worked on the family farm until he graduated from high school in Rutledge, Tennessee.  After working at American Enka for a time, he entered the army.  Dean served as a Military Policeman in Vietnam.  During his tour of duty in Vietnam, he was chosen to serve as a special guard for several Generals.  He provided protection for a Three Star General, a Two Star General and two One Star Generals.  When he returned to Morristown, he worked at Berkline Corporation in maintenance for twenty six plus years; the last eighteen years he served as the Maintenance Supervisor.  He was called to First Baptist Church in December of 1996 to become the Director of Properties and Maintenance.  He was ordained as Deacon in October 2002.

Dean oversees some 200,000 square feet of property including the Mission House, the Pastorium, the Harrel Park property and the Prophet’s Chamber.  He also supervises the maintenance of all vehicles and the lawn care.  Dean provides supervision for all maintenance employees.  He is delighted to work at First Baptist as he loves to help people.  Dean also ministers to his employees; they have prayed together on a weekly basis since his arrival.

Dean met his wife, Brenda, in 1968 just weeks before he left for his army duties.  He came home for a 25 day leave before leaving for Vietnam in January of 1969.  Dean and Brenda were married during this leave on December 26, 1968.  When he returned from Vietnam, they were stationed at Fort Knox Kentucky for seven months and then moved back to Morristown.  Dean and Brenda have two married sons, Chris and Eric and are the proud grandparents of five grandchildren, four grandsons and one granddaughter.  They love spoiling their grandchildren.  Dean enjoys working in the yard, and loves all kinds of sports.  Both Dean and Brenda are avid Lady Vol fans.
